Journaling ceases for English class

You might have noticed that I haven’t been posting daily journal prompts on here lately. Well, that’s because I have ended this exercise for my English classes.

It was no longer what I had envisioned. It started out as a way for the students to have the opportunity to reflect. Do a little self-analysis.

That ceased to be the case far too quickly.

It became just another assignment for them. Something to get through as quickly as possible.

My goal was not being met, so I am adapting.

Now, my classes are reading a collection of Edgar Allan Poe stories and poems. They are analyzing each piece individually and taking periodic pop quizzes over selected pieces.

As long as they are reading and writing, I am content, but I will continue to adapt the classes in order to achieve my ideal structure.
