Digital Media Design & Production

DigMediaTechThis course teaches procedural thinking and fundamental programming skills as a foundation for the production of digital and multimedia visual work. It is a process, including diverse digital techniques, of visual experimentation, analysis, and synthesis for the purpose of visual story-telling. Students will build upon the knowledge learned in Digital Media Technology.

Design is a nonlinear process including acts of research, experimentation, analysis, synthesis, and resolution. This process brings visual and conceptual materials together into unique relationships. Throughout the process, the designer is constantly making decisions about these relationships and questioning their communicative values and meanings. These visual relationships create new constellations of meaning at the intersection of image and language.

The goal is to tell stories. Stories do not exist in a vacuum. Stories exist within a vast cultural landscape that includes lots of other symbols, signs, and stories that carry the potential for old and new meanings. Meaning is created from form and from context.

Furthermore, students are taught the information and skills necessary for success in managing projects and operating logistical ventures in technology, business, and industry. This course covers scheduling of resources (including personnel, budget, timelines, and equipment), utilization of Gantt charts, economic principles within the workplace, and risk management. Other possible topics include developing a business plan, finance, marketing and promotion strategies, problem-solving and decision-making, and building leadership skills.

  • Develop plans for project management and resource scheduling by identifying key personnel and responsibilities, analyzing workload, determining a hierarchy and creating a timeline
  • Explore and utilize technology to produce a product
