‘Bride’ yields journalistic quote

The other night my wife was watching “Runaway Bride.” The movie didn’t do much for me, but I did like the idea a journalist was a main character. As I was half listening to the film while doing homework, I heard the journalist Ike Graham (played by Richard Gere) say this:

Journalism is literature in a hurry.

That struck me. I always like journalism-related quotes, and, since I teach American Literature to high school juniors, it seemed even more significant to my world.

Of course, I thought it was just part of the script, but I did a quick Internet search anyway. Turns out, it is real. English poet Matthew Arnold said it.

I just thought I would share it. Hopefully you enjoy it like it did.
